Welcome to the Merced/Mariposa County Asthma Coalition!

The MMCAC is a community-based health organization that was formed in 1997 by a group of local respiratory therapists and nurses that were brought together by a mutual concern of rising asthma incidence throughout the community.

Now, as a community we need to better understand the relationship of environmental triggers to the increased instance of asthma attacks. We need to work to reduce these triggers, recognize the signs of an asthma attack an dmake sure any one with asthma has an action plan.

Our mission, controlling asthma through awareness and education.

Healthy South Merced Project In partnership with Golden Valley Health Centers, the MMCAC is working to promote the health and well-being of the greater South Merced Community outside of the clinic walls.  Activities such as facilitating monthly South Merced community meetings on issues pertinent to local residents help steer the overall work of the project.  Priorities identified by community members have ranged from the improvement of the S. Hwy 59 & Childs Ave. intersection, to nutrition and asthma, to gangs and grafitti.  These meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month from 5:30-7:00pm in the classroom at Golden Valley Health Centers.  Other parts of the program include a weekly South Merced walking group that meets every Saturday morning, a community garden, and GIS health data mapping.  The Merced County Department of Public Health, the Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Project, and the UC Cooperative Extension are also contributors to the overall project.
